The Fresh Prince of Bel Air's House (former)

Los Angeles, CA

The Story

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air ran 6 seasons on NBC, 1990 to 1996, and made Will Smith a star. He played a West Philadelphia teenager sent to live with wealthy relatives, the Banks family, in Bel-Air.

This is Brentwood, not Bel-Air: Brentwood Park, a tract the county recorded in January 1906 with a traffic circle at every intersection. Tract rules required houses on this avenue to sit 100 feet back.

Los Angeles County's roll dates the house to 1937 and gives it an effective year of 1946, the assessor's marker for a major later update. The parcel takes in vacated street land from the tract.

Only the outside played the Banks home. The gates and front door appear on screen, while the rooms were sets on a soundstage at Sunset Gower Studios in Hollywood, according to Hooked on Houses.

One family has owned the house since 1978, and the county roll's 1979 base year agrees. It came up for sale in January 2026 at $29.5M, was withdrawn in July, and returned in September at $22.95M.

For the show's 30th anniversary in 2020, Smith and Airbnb opened a wing of the house: 5 October nights, $30 each, open only to Los Angeles County residents. A donation went to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia.
