Walker Hayes's House

Walker Hayes is a country singer and songwriter from Mobile, Alabama, in Nashville since 2005. His 2021 earworm “Fancy Like” hit number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and drew a Grammy nomination.

Thompson’s Station grew up around a rail stop: the first trains rolled through in August 1855, and the town takes its name from Elijah Thompson, the doctor who donated depot land in 1856.

The Civil War came through on March 5, 1863, when Earl Van Dorn’s Confederate cavalry routed a Union column here and captured Colonel John Coburn along with 1,220 of his men.

Hayes and his family were living in this house when “Fancy Like” took off in 2021, and the video that sent it viral was launched from here. The family moved on in 2023.

His daughter Lela, then 15, decided the song needed a dance, so father and daughter worked one out and posted it. The clip ran to nearly 21 million views.

Selling it took a gimmick worthy of the song: agent Davey Hackett cut a “Fancy Like” parody jingle with the “Welcome to Nashville” video creators, and the house went under contract within days.

After the song name-checked it, Applebee’s brought its Oreo shake back. A few years earlier, Hayes was stocking Costco shelves between record deals to keep his family fed.
