Warren Buffett's House

Omaha, NE

The Story

Investor who took control of Berkshire Hathaway, a struggling textile maker, in 1965 and built it into one of America's largest companies. He handed the CEO job to Greg Abel at the end of 2025, at 95.

County assessor data dates the house to 1921 and puts the lot in Dundee's Evanston addition. The 2026 roll records no sale of it.

George Payne, a real estate man whose company ran large Western colonization projects, built it for $25,000 to a Dutch Colonial design by architect Charles Steinbaugh, per Omaha Exploration. He left for Bemis Park in 1925.

Billy Nesselhous, a former jockey in political boss Tom Dennison's machine, later bought it for his mother and lined the third-floor recreation room with logs. Coal executive Sam Reynolds bought it in 1939.

Buffett was 27 when he bought it from Reynolds in 1958, 7 years before he took over Berkshire Hathaway. Reynolds had briefly held a US Senate seat in 1954, finishing Hugh Butler's term.

Charlie Munger lived a block from this house in the 1930s, Buffett wrote in November 2025, calling it the house he has “owned and occupied since 1958.” Successor Greg Abel lived blocks away in the 1990s.

At about 10 one September night in 2007, a man in camouflage face paint rang the doorbell holding a fake gun. Astrid Buffett called a security guard, who confronted him on the porch before he fled, AP reported.
