Waylon Jennings's House (former)

Outlaw country’s center of gravity, and one of the four voices on the 1976 compilation that became country music’s first platinum album. He died at 64 in February 2002, from complications of diabetes.

Brentwood only became a city on April 15, 1969, and its population nearly tripled in under 10 years, reaching 9,431 by 1980. Work on the Maryland Farms office park started in 1975.

The street name honors Andrew Jackson, whose nickname was Old Hickory. The Nashville stretch of that road loops about 69 miles and is broken in two by the Cumberland River and Percy Priest Lake.

Waylon and Jessi Colter called their Brentwood house Southern Comfort. Colter and Maureen Raffety later built a cookbook around the parties they threw there and the stories that went with them.

Robin Leach walked Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous through the place and called it “almost understated by rhinestone and glitz standards.” Colter said the kitchen was possibly her favorite room.

Southern Comfort threw Johnny Cash a sobriety party, one of the nights Colter and Raffety wrote up in their book about the house.

Waylon ran an office on Edgewood Avenue near Music Row, and his flying W logo still hangs above the building’s stained glass. Federal agents staked out a cocaine shipment sent there in August 1977.
