Elton John's House

Beverly Hills, CA

The Story

Elton John is the piano showman behind “Rocket Man” and “Your Song,” with 50 years of hits and a 330-show farewell tour that closed in 2023. He and husband David Furnish have kept a Beverly Hills base since 2012.

The county roll dates this house to 1968 as Lot 14 of Tract 24484, a single-story pool house on a 130 by 160 foot lot. Its improvement record carries a 1978 date, the only change logged since.

The street sits on Edward Doheny’s old ranch, which Paul Trousdale bought from Lucy Doheny Battson in 1954, annexed to Beverly Hills, and cut into 532 lots. A design board under Allen Siple held every house to 1 story.

Elton bought it in September 2021 in an off-market deal with the neighbors, a non-famous family who had held it for decades. The county reset its base value the next year on the change of ownership.

The point was land, not a second front door. Adding this lot took the family from about half an acre to nearly a full acre, with a gated drive and mature trees screening both houses from the road.

Architectural Digest noted in 2025 that the couple had released no interior photos of this house 4 years on, unlike the 1966 house next door, which Martyn Lawrence Bullard filled with Haring and Hirst.

Trousdale’s single-story rule was written to protect the views, and it drew Groucho Marx and Elvis Presley up the hill. The LA Conservancy calls it the city’s largest run of custom mid-century modern houses.
