Jamie Foxx's House (former)
Los Angeles, CA
The Story
Jamie Foxx came up through stand-up and the sketch show In Living Color in 1991, then won the 2005 best actor Oscar for playing Ray Charles in Ray. His single “Blame It” took a Grammy in 2010.
The county record dates the house to 1949 with an effective year of 1992, the assessor’s marker for a major remodel. The parcel joins pieces of 2 neighboring Tract 2605 lots, the double lot the brokers advertise.
The city zones it RA, the suburban class that requires 17,500-square-foot lots and still allows limited agriculture. That is why this stretch south of Ventura Boulevard reads as ranchettes rather than a subdivision grid.
Edgar Rice Burroughs bought the 550-acre Otis ranch here on March 1, 1919, named it Tarzana, and began cutting it into lots in 1922. Residents voted the name onto the community in 1928.
Foxx bought the place in 1997, the year The Jamie Foxx Show was in its first season, and kept it through 2008. He was living here when he won the Oscar in February 2005.
The basketball court in the corner of the lot still has “Foxxhole” painted on it, the name of the comedy channel Sirius launched for him in 2007. Later owners kept the lettering through 3 more sales.
Foxx told Complex that his early house parties were where Diddy gave motivational speeches on a mic and where he first met Jay-Z and Pharrell. The Times still files this house under “party pad.”
