Jamie Foxx's House

Thousand Oaks, CA

The Story

Jamie Foxx won the 2005 Best Actor Oscar for playing Ray Charles in Ray, and his single “Blame It” took a Grammy 4 years later. He came up through In Living Color and his own 1990s sitcom.

The Mediterranean villa went up in 1995 on 40 acres, with 2 guesthouses, a cabana studio, and a north-south tennis court already in place when Jamie bought it in May 2007.

Ventura County's parcel map carves this bend of Potrero Road into 40-acre pieces. The 2 next door changed hands on the same July day in 1997, 2 years after this house was finished.

The valley is ranch country inside the Santa Monica Mountains, houses on 20-acre lots and larger, every one on well water. Ronald Colman, Eve Arden, and Sophia Loren owned the same ranch here in turn.

On the night of January 18, 2016, a pickup left Potrero Road outside the house, rolled, and caught fire. Jamie called 911, then cut the driver's seat belt with EMT scissors and pulled him clear.

Corinne Foxx married Joe Hooten on the grounds here on September 21, 2024, in front of about 300 guests. Jamie walked her down the aisle to a strings cover of a Ray Charles tune.

When the Woolsey Fire flared in the Boney Mountain wilderness on November 13, 2018, the county ordered everyone south of Potrero Road out, this valley and Lake Sherwood included. The flare-up took no houses.
