Nancy Pelosi's House

Nancy Pelosi has represented San Francisco in Congress since 1987 and was the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House. She held the gavel from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023.

The house went up in 1938 as a 2-story single-family dwelling on the Pacific Heights ridge, on a lot the assessor records at about 88 feet deep. The block is zoned RH-1, 1 house per lot.

A 2000 permit filed by earlier owners described facade changes, a large roof dormer, and a 4th-floor studio. That studio was remodeled in 2019, and 12 rotted street-facing wood windows were replaced in 2024.

Pacific Heights was first built out in the 1870s with small Victorian houses, then largely rebuilt with grander period homes after the 1906 earthquake. The Spreckels and Whittier mansions are among the survivors of that second wave.

The Pelosis bought the house in September 2007, months into her first term as Speaker, and it appears on her financial disclosures. That is how FactCheck.org separated it from a turreted Pacific Avenue mansion a meme called hers.

On October 28, 2022, an intruder broke in and attacked Paul Pelosi, then 82, while the Speaker was in Washington. David DePape drew 30 years in federal court in 2024 and life without parole in state court that October.

The house had drawn protest before. Anti-war demonstrators held a vigil outside in 2007, and on New Year's Day 2021 someone left a pig's head on the sidewalk and spray-painted “$2K” and “Cancel rent” on the garage door.
