Reese Witherspoon's House
Nashville, TN
The Story
Nashville raised Reese Witherspoon: she was a Harpeth Hall student before Legally Blonde made her a star in 2001. Playing June Carter Cash in Walk the Line won her the best actress Oscar.
The brick building went up in the 1870s. Behind the main house sits a second, smaller structure with a private alley of its own, and the 2 sold together as one property.
European immigrants laid out Germantown in the 1850s as North Nashville's first suburb, large brick townhouses beside workers' cottages. After decades of decline, the district joined the National Register in 1979.
The deed describes this ground as part of lot 113 of the McGavock plan. James McGavock and son David bought 2,240 acres here in 1786, land that became Nashville's first residential subdivision.
Witherspoon's April 2022 purchase ran through the Morning Glory Trust, which lists a Los Angeles mailing address. The trust still held the parcel, zoned for mixed use, on the 2025 county roll.
One of at least 4 properties she picked up in early 2022, close to $28M of buying in 6 months. Press floated the building as office space for Draper James or Hello Sunshine.
Her Draper James flagship keeps shop on 12th Avenue South in 12South, styled inside like a friend's home, down to a cash wrap built as a marble kitchen island.
