Taylor Swift's House (former)

Singer-songwriter who broke through in country with her 2006 debut and went fully pop with the album 1989. Her Eras Tour, from 2023 to 2024, became the highest-grossing concert tour ever.

The building went up in 1912 as a utilitarian brick stable designed by Charles Meyers, according to Village Preservation’s landmarks archive. It sits in a city historic district, so exterior changes need Landmarks approval.

The city’s tax-lot database gives the same 1912 build year and logs a 2009 alteration. It files the lot inside the Greenwich Village Historic District Extension II.

Architect Galia Solomonoff filed in July 2008 to add a third story and convert the whole building to a one-family house, per city Buildings records. Shoring, underpinning, and sub-cellar permits followed in February 2009.

Landmarks approved a scaled-back rooftop addition and pergola on December 14, 2010, lowering the penthouse 2 feet from the first design. The approval also covered rebuilding the rear facade, which had been demolished before designation.

Engineers at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger designed a new basement pool set below the water table, built to resist groundwater pushing up. The owner wanted the old brick left on view, so the perimeter walls stayed.

Swift rented the house in 2016 at about $40,000 a month from its owner, Soho House executive David Aldea. Aldea sold it in February 2019, per the city’s deed record.

TMZ broke the news of her stay in June 2016, when city permits put her Tribeca penthouse renovation at $535,000. A track on her 2019 album Lover takes its title from this street.
