Reese Witherspoon is Nashville-raised: Harpeth Hall, then Hollywood, where Legally Blonde made her a star in 2001 and Walk the Line's June Carter Cash won her the best actress Oscar.

The gates belong to Sugartree, which calls itself “Nashville's original gated community” and keeps a 1974 brochure to prove it. Its 15 shared acres hold a certified arboretum of 120-plus tree species.

Metro's cadastre puts the lot on the Sugartree Phase 3 plat and dates it to July 1976, in the pocket where Green Hills shades into Belle Meade.

Witherspoon closed on the house in the spring of 2005, the year Walk the Line reached theaters, and held it for nearly 17 years.

Her quietest Nashville exit: the sale closed on December 30, 2021, and was recorded 12 days into the new year, surfacing in county deed books rather than headlines.

Her Draper James label, named for grandparents Dorothea Draper and William James Witherspoon, opened its first store in 2015 in 12South, with a marble cash wrap styled like a kitchen island.
