Taylor Swift's House

Taylor Swift is the singer-songwriter behind “Shake It Off,” Folklore, and the Eras Tour. She was 25, with 5 albums out, when she bought this house in September 2015.

Samuel Goldwyn, the G in MGM, had the house built in 1934 on a cul-de-sac in the foothills behind the Beverly Hills Hotel. Douglas Honnold drew it in a Georgian style, and Frank Hellenthal built it.

The city’s 1985 survey could not see the house from the street and worked from published photos: stucco walls, a hip roof, a fanlight over the door. The 2004 resurvey gave up for the same reason.

The county assessor carries it as Lot 3 of Tract 10109, about 1.9 acres, with an effective year of 1937. The base year reset to 2016 after the change of ownership.

Swift bought it 8 months after Samuel Goldwyn Jr. died in January 2015 at 88. Until that sale the house had never left the Goldwyn family, and Goldwyn Sr. had used MGM set builders to raise it.

Her architect, Monique Schenk, told the council the crew lifted the wisteria off the facade, swapped an asphalt roof for slate-style tile and copper gutters, and put the vines back. Beverly Hills landmarked the house unanimously in April 2017.

When studios closed in 2020, Swift and engineer Laura Sisk set up Kitty Committee Studio at her Los Angeles home. The Folklore credits list every vocal as recorded there, from “cardigan” to “hoax.”
